HISTORY OF BANGLADESH (1905-2005)

I have been asked to write a preface on Dr. Milton and Dr. Samad’s new book “History of Bangladesh, 1905-2005” and having regard to the services rendered by the authors to the history of this region in which we live, I comply with their request with the greatest possible pleasure. I need hardly emphasize that history, after all, is a record of man’s achievements and failures. Indeed, History is a discipline that helps us understand the past in the present context. Man’s incessant struggle in this world to survive and forge ahead lends a charm to the pages of history unparalleled in any other literary production. More especially, a study of history brings before the eyes of a rising generation those forgotten events and glorious names which were once the very apogee of our national history.
